ABC Member Fights Back Against Project Labor Agreement Assault on Small Business readers know that wasteful and costly government-mandated project labor agreements (PLAs) are an assault on small businesses and taxpayers.

Last night, Brett McMahon, vice president of ABC member firm Miller & Long Concrete Construction, had a chance to speak out against discriminatory and wasteful government-mandated PLAs on national television on behalf of small construction businesses and their employees, which are suffering from 22 percent unemployment.

McMahon discussed the problems with the April 13 final rule implementing President Obama’s pro-PLA Executive Order 13502 with David Asman of FOX Business Network’s “America’s Nightly Scoreboard” program.

The Obama order strongly encourages federal agencies to steer lucrative construction contracts to union-signatory construction firms on federal construction projects costing more than $25 million. It is a special interest scheme that will hurt taxpayers and small businesses and cost jobs.
