ABC MA Chapter: It’s Time to Halt the Assault

What’s currently going on at the University of Massachusetts is yet another powerful example of why we need to Halt the Assault on taxpayers, workers and small businesses. As a new billboard shown above highlights, $100 million of public funds is being wasted on a union-only project labor agreement (PLA) supported by Governor Deval Patrick.

The Patrick-supported PLA was approved by the UMass Building Authority for $750 million in construction at UMass Boston over ten years. The UMass Building Authority includes two construction union leaders appointed by the Governor. The Massachusetts State Ethics Commission is currently investigating whether the vote of the union leaders is a conflict of interest.

“This is exactly the kind of politics-as-usual people are fed up with,” said Greg Beeman, president of ABC’s MA Chapter.
